A Key to Healthy Eating and Weight Loss

Let’s explore easy healthy eating tips that lead to better health and what many of us are seeking, a healthy way for weight loss. The purpose of this page is to just give you basic, non-medical knowledge that I have experienced over the years. I am by no means a medical expert, just a blogger who wants to share the information with others.

Why Better Health?

First, let me begin by saying that I have always been overweight for most of my adult life. Growing up in Southern Minnesota, while in grades 7 -12, I was active in sports with Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. Then came kids, career and weight gain. Now we are in a great 55+ community in Deep South Texas, with lots of activities and a safe area to walk, but the Rio Grande Valley is also known for being the home of the #1 overweight city in the USA – McAllen. My hope is that the population in the RGV will see this article and take subtle baby steps for bettering their health. Healthy Eating and ultimately, losing weight is the way to do it.

Benefits of Better Health

  • Feel Better About Yourself
  • Better Lifestyle
  • Better Mental Health
  • More Quality Time with Family
  • Less Medical bills
  • Less Dental bills
  • More Money in your pocketbook

I’m sure you are now thinking of other benefits for better health, but I want to keep with the purpose of my page = Getting you thinking and taking action. I love inspiring people, because it ultimately inspires and encourages me to do the same. When it comes to eating healthy and better health, we can all utilize the cheerleaders of the world and in our own personal community.

Importance of Eating Healthy

Well, despite the above benefits, perhaps just overall feeling better is the best reason of all. We all know we need to eat to stay alive, but it is also just as important to understand that WHAT we eat has a lot to do with our health too. However, we all know that is easier said than done. One of my good friends introduced me to something called “CAT”. Richard Davidson is known as The Alkalarian, but he is a very generous man with his vast knowledge on eating healthy. His desire for better health is a personal one for him. In fact, I have a page that goes into more detail about the Alkalarian Lifestyle. You can check that out here.

What is CAT?

CAT stands for Cucumbers, Avacado and Tomato. Starting your day out with food that is natural and non-processed gets you going in the right direction. Now, to be honest, I do not like tomatoes unless in salsa or spaghetti sauce, so I didn’t always make it CAT for breakfast. Additionally, Avacado in our house was NEVER seen, not even in guacamole which is referred to as guaca-Yucky. But I will say that others that inspire me encouraged me to “just try it”.

And you know what? It isn’t so bad after all. Especially if you add in some Lime juice and sea salt. Now cucumbers, I can eat them all day long, but I added another “C” to my plate, Cauliflower. To start my transition to like the mashed avacado mixed with lime juice and sea salt, I would take the cucumber slices and the cauliflower and use the avacado as a dip.

Why CAT?

All of these foods are alkaline foods, meaning they boost your alkalinity creating a healthier body. Have you ever seen Alkaline Water? There is a reason they have it and it isn’t just hype. I drink a liter every day. When I do, I feel better and I definitely notice a difference when I don’t. I truly feel sluggish. So my why for eating CAT is that it makes me feel younger than I am! Do what works for you. But for me, starting a lifestyle change with something like CAT was easy to follow, easy to make a habit. Baby steps are sometimes that catalyst we need for inspiration for more actions.

In addition to CAT, I also am eating a banana every morning. It is a natural remedy for me for knee pain due to an old injury and is helping me extend the life of the ACL that should be replaced. Surgery in 2005 and the doctors said would be worn out in 10-15 years. I am on year 19. So healthy eating truly affecting me in a multitude of ways. My other meals are not always health-conscious. I work from home, but many times dinner is a last minute frozen pizza or something that doesn’t require me to be in front of the stove, grill or oven preparing.

Game Plan for Healthy Eating and Weight Loss

As I state above starting with something simple is a great game plan for success in eating Healthy. A benefit of eating healthy is better gut health. Thinking back to your own family, do you know of anyone with ulcers or digestive tract issues? Now watch what they eat. If you are eating similar foods in the quantities they are, you may be leading yourself down that same path.

If CAT isn’t for you, examine your menu for a week. What processed food are you incorporating into your meals that you could replace with something simple like a salad? Or perhaps, you can substitute powdered mashed potatoes with actual potatoes. I make Super Tators on the grill. Cleaning up the potatoes, slicing them up, adding garlic, bacon and even real butter and wrapping it up in tinfoil. Mmmm. The smells alone are amazing and even better is that all of it is unprocessed foods. Game plan = Baby Steps.

Taking Action – Get Up and Get Moving

Another key to better health is literally taking action. Getting up and walking even just 15 minutes a day will boost your metabolism. For someone who works from home blogging on a computer for hours at a time, as well as teaching others how to do what I do, I am on my butt WAY too long. I now plan it in my calendar through out the day purposeful walks of at least 15 minutes a day. Before I did this, I was only getting about 2000 steps a day. Now? I am over 6000 steps every day and sometimes I am over 10,000 steps. That is something that I could not consider achievable until I took control of my schedule and took action.

Tools That May Assist You in Monitoring Your Activity

  • Fitness bands/smart watches – allows me to earn crypto and I own my health data- FYI.
  • Food Scales to measure the amount of food you eat (I do NOT do this). In the past when I measure out my food, I feel FOMO and tend to cheat more often. Snack on raw veggies when hungry. Eat when hungry with smart foods.
  • Our Smart Phones can even track our steps and more with different apps. Just keep in mind that some you have to pay for.
  • Smart scales for you to step on and it records your weight, bmi and other things. Just remember, it isn’t always what the scale says that is measuring your success towards a healthy body. Muscle weighs more than fat so how you feel is the best measurement!

Healthy Supplements

We have all seen a multitude of health products on the market that are purported to help in weight loss, but have you truly done your research and looked at the ingredients some are using?

There are powders, gummies, pills, shots – ever hear of Ozempic? I don’t know about you but I find myself allergic to needles in general. But I am not here to pitch just any product nor bash any product. I know what works for me and I am sticking with my plan. I want to give encouragement to others that they can do anything they set their mind (and body) to. It is all about baby steps and consistency to attain better health.

The image below is me. The one on the left is September 2022 and the one on the right is March 2024. Incredible!

This is what healthy eating and the right natural supplements can do

Biohacking Your Body – What Works For Me Including Healthy Eating

So are you curious what works for me? Basically everything that I have stated above is what I am doing or have done. In addition, I personally am using a product line that assists me in keeping my energy, feeling younger, curbing my appetite and the most important for me – great sleep! I have more information for you to read on another one of my pages you can see here. When you read about these great products, just know that some I take every single day. I love that they come in a package that allows me to travel freely too. All have gone primarily in my carryon luggage. No mess, no stress.

My best weeks of progress between September 2022 and March 2024 consist of the following product schedule:
1) Wake up – Take my Fountain of Youth snap
2) 20-30 minutes later – Time for the Gut Health
3) 10 minutes later – Oh my favorite! The Brownie Batter (and craving crusher) heated up from on top of my cup of Chai Tea Latte! Nothing beats Chocolate Mocha flavor in the morning!
4) Mid-afternoon or as necessary – Brain booster. My favorite flavors are Peanut Butter Cup and Chocolate Mint.
5) Ready for some Sweet Dreams? Yeah, that Sleep and Slim product is incredible. I am sound asleep in 20 minutes or less and wake up feeling fully energized and ready for the day!

My activity level is increasing too!

In addition to these simple syrups, each in an easy to consume snap, I am now scheduling time throughout my day to go for 3-5 walks per day. Just 15 minutes at a time, which is about 2000 steps for me. It helps to clear my head before my next set of appointments or tasks. Our dog is loving the exercise too and she is more content during the day when I am on my butt working my business from home. I am now averaging 6000 – 10,000 (or more) steps every day. You see my results. Just think what yours can be?

Let me throw in a little more about me – Menopause. Yep, Ladies, you and I both have seen that darn scale swing back and forth faster than any pendulum. And those spikes seem to just keep spiking higher. I feel pretty darn amazing that I have a plan that works for me and that pendulum is no longer swinging, but is becoming more like a never ending slide. Sure it has some twists and turns, but the numbers are consistently on the downward trend. However, until I put those two pictures above side by side did I realize how well my Baby Steps were working. Aren’t you worth it? Isn’t your family worth having you be in better health so you can enjoy life better?

Final Thoughts on Healthy Eating

healthy eating creates better health. Quote: The greatest wealth is health" ~Virgil

To recap, when you are looking for a way to eating more healthy, get a game plan and start simple. It is easier to gradually add more than feeling defeated and overwhelmed with a diet. We have all done the fad diets and some work while you do it. However, when you stop or quit, the weight comes right back. Besides, looking at the first 3 letters in the word diet are my main reason I do not do them.

So, I really just want to encourage my readers to take action towards improving their eating habits and achieving their goals. But you need to be fair to yourself and realize you didn’t put that extra weight on overnight, so it will not come off overnight either.
